Vegan meal replacements can be hard to come by. Most brands use whey protein (milk) as protein source, which makes those products non-vegan friendly. Jimmyjoy, however, has been offering their plant-based product for over 3 years now. Result? 4.6/5 ratings in over 12k reviews. Sounds great does it not? Let’s find out in this Plenny Shake Vegan review.

Plenny Vegan offers 395kcal (20% of RI), 9.2g of fat (13% of RI), 1.4g of saturated fats (7% of RI), 47g of carbs (18% of RI), 5g of added sugars (5.6% of RI), 27g of protein (53.9% of RI), 8.4g of fiber (42% of RI) and 1g of salt (16.6% of RI). All the recommended intakes for Jimmyjoy products are taken from ESFA and WHO and are USDA compliant (for more info check the resources page). So what does this mean for you?
- Most of the energy will be coming from carbohydrates, unlike many other vegan competitiors (e.g. Soylent). The main carbohydrate source is oats. Oats are great source of complex carbohydrates and are seen as one of the king ways to consume them. Many people take oats in the mornings inclucing, bodybuilders, athletes, myself…
- The protein mix includes Soy, Hemp and Rice protein. Of them, soy is likely the main source. A fine alternative to whey protein, even if in some cases might be inferior; e.g. muscle growth and maintanance.
- You will get 20% of most vitamins and minerals. This perhaps might be a bit low for certain people to have deficiencies, such as, iron or B12 (common among vegans). We might recommend vitamin supplements (I am looking at you B12) to balance your diet. Or nutrient rich foods (but be especially aware with B12, iron, calcium and zinc).
- Allergens include Soy and Gluten. The oats used in Plenny Shakes are elaborated in facilities that handle gluten products.
- All flavours except the unflavoured version contain sweeteners.
Plenny Shake Vegan FAQ
1- Why when you order 4 bags of Plenny Shake Vegan you get 21 meals, even if its 5 meals per bag?
Before the serving used to be of 700kcal and 178g. Thus there where 3 meals in each bag. Now, they reduced the serving sice to 400kcal and 100g, but have not change the packs. So you get 35g extra in each bag.
2- What is the taste?
According to Jimmyjoy “the base flavour is mild oaty flavour”. We certainly do not recommend the unflavoured version unless you want to customize it yourself or you want to avoid the sweeteners.
3- Is it available in the US?
Yes, you can purchase it in the US. It is free shipping over $75. A bit higher than most US meal replacement brands, which offer free shipping in purchases over $30. Although, shipping rates are reasonable and delivery times fast.
4- Can I order it from Canada?
Unfortunately, you will have to pay insane duty taxes, over $60. They are trying to work on an alternative, but currently you will have to get it from the US. Arrange a friend to ship it to you or cross the border. Sorry for the bad news.
5- What are the shipping costs in Europe?
Free shipping in purchases over €50 for Netherlands, Belgium and Germany (€5 flat rate under €50). For the rest of Europe, is free shipping in orders over €100 and €9.5 flat rate if not.
They will also ship out same day if orders are placed before 3pm CET. Pretty good. More info.
Who is Plenny Shake Vegan for?
Are you Vegan? Are you on a budget? Are you looking for cheap healthy vegan meals? If you have said to yes to any of those questions the answer is probably “for you”. If you are not strictly Vegan we recommend having a look to other Jimmyjoy products to see if any of them will fit you better.
Does it taste good?
It has very positive reviews regarding the flavour. Definitely really good for the price. Perhaps a bit mild for our liking and not as good as some of the competitors (e.g. Queal). Find your flavour and try it.
Will I get all the nutrients I need?
One fifth of your dietary needs. This is based on a 2,00kcal diet. We always recommend to calculate your needs first. You can use one of these tools for that. As a vegan, you should perhaps be concerned about B12, zinc and calcium; since, it only provides 20% of those. It might be hard to come by in your diet, so we recommend keeping track of them.
I want to buy it. How much will it cost me?
This is, perhaps the best monetary value you can get for any meal replacement. Under one euro (slightly over a dollar in the US) for each 400kcal meal. As discussed, there are very good shipping terms and prices, too.
Wait a moment, is it perfect?
Yes, it is. WHAAT? No, just kidding. It is not perfect, but it’s great. Really competitive price, nutritional values within the acceptable macronutrient distribution range set by the ESFA, and good taste.
Great product, great price, awesome value for money. On top of that, we think it generally has good taste and you even have the unflavoured version with no sweeteners and flavours. This is very useful for those looking to customize their shakes and the people looking to avoid artificial sweeteners.
