Satislent Compact Review| A Satisfactory Meal Replacement Bar
Satislent is a Spanish company focused on vegan meal replacement products. They are characterized by cheap shakes made with local ingredients. Their shakes are thick, very filling and nutritious. I was fairly impressed with the shakes, even if some of the flavours were a little mild. Now, they have develop their meal replacement bar, which comes on only one flavour: chocolate. Let’s have a look.

This is a brand to watch out for the future, but you can start enjoying it now and brag about it later. As a small company, it has certain limitations in the packaging, labeling and shipping reach departments. However, this limitations are easily overcome by the quality of the product and prime ingredients used, as well as, a very very competitive price. One of the best deals in the market, no doubt.
This is the beta version! The product is very likely to evolve in a short time.
What We like
- Size (energy).
- Final price.
- Does well against competitors.
Satislent offers very good products that are fairly competitive in the market, because of the price point, nutritional profiles that they offer and quality of the prime ingredients. Similarly, Satislent Compact does fairly well against other meal replacement bars, which are often higher in saturated fats or sugars (often added sugars) or offer no micronutrients.
Furthermore, €2.5/bar of 427kcal is one of the best deals (together with Plennybar and GOBar) and beats the like of Huel Bar, Saturo Cocoa Bar or Megabite.
On top of that, I find 427kcal to be a more adequate size to replace a meal than 250kcal (which would be more like a snack bar). You can use it to replace breakfast or lunch and have plenty of energy for few hours.
What We dislike
- Fat source.
- Omega-3 content unclear.
- Fiber content is too high.
- Micronutrient shortcoming.
I must say that I am not against sunflower oil, I do think is a good fat source in general. It is just saddening that they would drop olive oil (one of the distinguishing factors of their shakes); although, it might have to do with difficulties in the manufacturing process.
Following with fats, I would like to see the omega-3 and omega-6 contents specified somewhere in the nutrition label or the website.
Besides, while fiber is good, I think 30g of fiber might be too high. Particularly, becuase it will limit the amount of Satislent Compacts that you can have a day and ideally a meal replacement should be able to replace all your meals.
Similarly, I would like to see at least 20% of the daily recommended for each micronutrient. Not only because that would allow to only consume Satislent compact, but also because it would ensure that each meal you are having the correct micronutrient quantity.
Improvements
- More information about nutrition.
- More flavours.
- Less fiber version.
- Micronutrients up to 20%
- More protein.
First and foremost, I would like to see the points made above about nutrition clarified. The nutritional content should not only be clarified, but I think modified too; in order to have less fiber (more starch), micronutrients up to 20% per serving and more protein (personal preference).
Aside from more protein, I would also like to see a complementary protein source to pea protein, something like rice protein that will increase the methionine, leucine and lysine levels.
I shall note that this is the first iteration of the bar, thus I expect it will change considerably. Satislent has been pretty swift about upgrades and evolution of its products so let’s hope it is the same for Satislent Compact.

Satislent’s bar offers 427kcal per serving, roughly 20% of the daily calorie intake for an average adult. They are intended to fully replace meals (like Queal’s GOBars, PlennyBars, orf and also offer 23 vitamins and minerals (although they fall a little short of the daily recommendations). Perhaps, the most surprising factor in these bars is the amount of fibre (30g per bar), which at first glance seems problematic.
The bars should be suitable for vegans, but they are produced in a factory that handles eggs and milk; so decide accordingly.
Energy
Each Satislent Compact provides you with 427kcal, which is plenty to replace one meal with. 41% of the energy comes from carbs, 40% from fats and 19% from protein. Thus, this bars rely on fats more than the recommended amount by the European Food and Safety Agency (20-35% of the total energy). Consequently, it also offers less than the minimum of 45% of energy from carbohydrates recommended.
However, this formula is quite common in vegan products like the super popular ready-to-drink Soylent Drink or Saturo.
Carbohydrates
30g of fiber is absolutely insane. I have not seen such a high fiber content in any other product. The inmediate worry is if this will be too much or whether it will be a efficient energy source. Soluble fiber can be mixed with water and broken down by bacteria into short chain fatty acids to be used as energy source. However, this process is less efficient than breaking down standard starch or sugars and produces less calories per gram.
Too much fiber can also cause excessive bowel movement. Satislent does recommend to have only one bar a day, probably to minimize the laxative effect the bars might have.
Regarding the source, the main ingredient are oats, but there is also some puffed rice. Oats tend to be a great source of complex carbohydrates, since they are low in sugars. This means that they cause minimal impact in blood glucose levels. Oligofructose (a form of soluble fiveer related to inulin) is probably the fiber source.
Therefore, out of 39.5g, 30g are fiber, 4.5g other starch and 4.5g sugars. The sugar levels in Satislent Compact are lower than in most competitors (Huel bar, TwennyBar, GObars).
Fats
The main fat source is sunflower oil. The use of sunflower oil is a little surprising, since Satislent uses olive oil in their powder meal replacements (which give a nice touch to the taste).
Sunflower oil is extremely high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and not very rich in omega-3 (1/70 ratio). In fact, it is also strange not seeing any flaxseed or canola oil to balance out the omega-3 to -6 ratio; as seen in most shakes (Jimmyjoy, Soylent Drink, Queal Vegan, Vitaline). It makes me wonder about what the ratio is and if it is close to the “ideal” 1/1-1/4.
Satislent Compact also has 3.3g of saturated fats per serving, high but not over the recommended limit, which come mostly from the cocoa powder.
It would be interesting to have some more information about the amount of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats.
Protein
With 17g of protein per bar, Satislent compact is fairly rich in protein content, while not as much as Huel Bar. Most of the protein comes from pea protein, and some minimal from oats and other ingredients. The problem with using pea protein only is that is fairly low in some essential amino acids like methionine. This is why is often coupled with rice protein.
While the reduced amounts of methionine will not have massive effects in “normal” people, those who are active and do sports regularly might be interested on complementing this deficiency. I am a little sad not to see two different sources to offer a better rounded a.a. profile.
Micronutrients
Satislent compact offers around 15-18% of the daily recommended intake for all vitamins and minerals. This is surprising, because it means that you will not get 100% of your needs if you were to consume 5 bars a day (2,000kcal). Furthermore, they use a mineral-vitamin mix as source for these micronutrients, thus I do not understand why they do not offer slightly more.
On top of this, some vitamins, like Vitamin K2 seem to be missing from the mix. While the differentiation from K1 and the recommended intake for K2 are still not clear; a full nutrition should include both.
Allergens
The only actual allergens in the bar are soy and gluten. Nevertheless, they can be cross-contamined with eggs, peanut, milk, nuts, sesame and sulphites, so proceed with caution.
Nutrition in short
- 427kcal per serving (21% of RI), with a 41C/19P/40F energy split.
- Each bar contains 30g of fiber, which may cause execessive bowel movement if consumed regularly.
- Fats come from sunflower oil, which makes me think the bars are high in omega-6 but low in omega-3 (unconfirmed). Each serving provides with 24% of RI for fats and 16.5% of RI for saturated fats.
- Pea protein is the main source of protein (17g/bar).
- Each bar provides with 15-18% of each micronutrient, which is shorter than the 20% I would expect. Some vitamins like K2 are missing too.
- I would use Satislent Compact as an alternative to 1 meal a day, but not more due to the nutritional limitations.
- The bar is suitable for vegans, but comes from a factory that handles eggs and milk.

Queal GOBar vs Satislent Compact

Queal GOBar is considerably richer in protein, and also uses milk protein instead of pea protein. While the bars offer less calories, I find the energy split to be more of my liking in GOBars. However, this much protein will not be necessary for everybody. Besides, I find that 30g of fiber might be a little too much, and GOBars seem to be better to consume more often (more than once a day); even though the saturated fat content is a little too high.

Twennybar has less total fats, but more saturated fats per serving as opposed to Satislent Compact. This suggests, that the MUFA and PUFA levels will be lower too, which is not ideal. The protein content is fairly similar, however, Twennybar uses soy protein instead of pea protein. The salt content on Jimmyjoy’s bar is also higher.
Shipping
Satislent offers free shipping in all orders above €40 within Europe. Jimmyjoy’s threshold for free orders within the EU is €100.
Huel Bar vs Satislent Compact

Huel
Huel is one of the giants of the industry, and manufacturer of some of the best products. They offer a vegan powder in three versions (standard, gluten free and professional), the bar and a granola based breakfast option.

Huel bar offers only 250kcal per bar, in contrast to 427kcal per Satislent Compact (thus making this one the cheaper option). Huel always offers high protein products, and this one is no exception (pea and rice protein). However, Huel Bar is significantly higher than Satislent’s bar in sugar and also higher in saturated fats (per g). Both bars are high in fiber content, up to a point where both manufacturers recommend limited daily usage.
Shipping
Huel offers free shipping to Europe in orders above €54 (less in the UK); whereas Satislent offers free shipping in orders higher than €40.

Saturo Cocoa bar is also smaller (250kcal) than Satilent Compact. Even if it is smaller, it it higher in saturated fats (despite the fact that the total fats are lower) and sugars (not a very good thing). Both offer more than enough fiber, too.
Shipping
The Austrian brand Saturo offers free shipping in orders above €50, €10 higher than Satislent.
Verdict
Satislent’s Compact bars are very solid meal replacement bars. A great alternative to your daily vegan shake; that’s both pleasant and nutritious.
Furthermore, it is really competitively priced, and it can be compared to the cheapest meal replacement bars around; like the Plenny Bar.
That said, I don’t think the taste and texture are at the same level. For my liking, the bars are a little too dry. Thus, I would probably choose other direct competitors, over Satislent Compact.
